San Sebastian (Pedro Usabiaga), Madrid, Spain, 1995. Text in Spanish, English, and French. Limited First Edition and Printing.

I have always believed that Benno Thoma was my favorite male gay photographer in the ever expanding "big-bang party" beginning gay universe, but there must be room for Pedro Usabiaga. His work is so profound, it rivals Thoma's early work in Havana, circa 1990's, rich in dramatic expressionism and artful body posing and dramatic posturing dripping in sensuality and machismo. Usabiaga uses the same techniques with his models that he selects, although the emphasis is not on sexuality in these early first and second monographs, clearly, he is working towards breaking through the barriers of his conservative society in Spain, which is religious and pious. Their sexy smiles and eyes, and bodies are incredible, and Usabiaga captures it all in Piel de Serpiente, the "snakeskin" as it sheds its clothing to change the dialog and the moment, and the sensuality. Pedro Usabiaga was born in San Sebastian, Spain, in 1959, and studied in Madrid and Paris.

He has had numerous exhibitions and collaboration with magazines such as Vogue Man Ellie Cosmopolitan Panorama Art Fotografico, and downtown. From the various exhibitions Pedro Usabiaga published his first book with Bruno Gmünder Besame Mucho in 1991, and then has followed up with this incredible second monograph which he self-published in 1995 which he titled Piel de Serpiente. " pride-photobooks " is a new ID supporting a new Brand. Under "pride-photobooks" I will promote LGBTQ publications, Studio Magazines (not only) Blue and Black & White publications, and A&F publications, and the entire run of the Bruce Weber era - and beyond. Piel de Serpiente is a softcover volume with a pictorial illustrated French fold jacket over a plain unillustrated thick glossy white paper coverboard, which has the title and artist's name blind stamped embossed in cursive writing.

The book measures 11 ¾ x 9 ¾ inches (30 x 25 cm) and contains 108 pages of black and white and duotone photographic prints that are bordered images arranged on the pages. All the pages are unpaginated. Piel de Serpiente is offered in AS NEW/near Mint condition with no defects beyond normal wear and tear. This First Edition, first printing from 1995 was limited to 5,000 copies and is extremely well preserved given the age of the title and has been sleeved for most of its existence. The beauty of the images is classical, not porn, so if that's is what you are seeking, this title is not for you.

Not that there aren't some incredibly hot models, the style is more towards the artistic photography genre. I should note that our Store copies of Piel de Serpiente have been stored in a clean air environment with temperature and humidity controlled since acquisition from the Publisher.

They have NEVER been previously owned. The authenticity and legitimacy of this title is guaranteed.

All sales must be final given the sealed condition of this title. If "sealed" then cannot return as unsealed. Legitimacy of this title and artist signature(s) (if applicable) is assured.
